Sofia’s areas of expertise are sexual violence, masculinity issues, and gender equality planning in the public sector. She has extensive experience in producing consultation papers and other texts, arranging seminars, and giving presentations.

In 2004–2005 she worked as the secretary for gender equality affairs at Åbo Akademi University, where she mapped the gender equality situation at the university and prepared a new gender equality plan as well as the accompanying action plans. Sofia has also had positions of trust in student organizations and in public health and care organizations.

Sofia works as Secretary for Social Affairs at the Student Union of the University of Helsinki. Her areas of responsibility include counselling members and promoting their interests regarding student health care, student wellbeing, and student housing. She is also the ombudsman for students experiencing harassment. Sofia has done both professional and voluntary work in the field of gender equality in civil society and higher education. Sofia has also worked in youth organizations, retail, caring for people with disabilities, and teaching at the level of higher education.

Sofia has a Master of Social Sciences from Åbo Akademi University.
